Lake Cumberland Thunder Run

The 2026 Lake Cumberland Thunder Run is set to return to the waters of Lake Cumberland July 10–11, 2026, bringing another major weekend of high-performance boating, poker run action, raft-ups, and marina nightlife to one of the country’s most legendary boating destinations. Organized by the Lake Cumberland Powerboat Club, the annual Thunder Run continues to grow as one of the premier grassroots poker run events in the Midwest performance boating scene.
Hosted out of State Dock Marina, the Thunder Run combines organized lake cruising with social boating events, live entertainment, cash prizes, and some of the most active performance boating culture anywhere on Lake Cumberland.
The two-day event officially begins Friday with a bonus stop raft-up gathering sponsored by a partner still to be announced. Organizers say the Friday activities are designed to give participants an opportunity to socialize, raft together, and enjoy one of Lake Cumberland’s signature boating traditions before the official poker run begins.
Live entertainment is scheduled for both Friday and Saturday nights, helping create a full weekend atmosphere centered around boating, dockside nightlife, and marina gatherings. Final schedules, entertainment lineups, stop locations, and event timing details will be distributed through the official driver’s information booklet and discussed during the mandatory driver’s meeting.
The main Thunder Run poker run will once again send participants across the massive waters of Lake Cumberland to collect poker cards at designated stops throughout the lake. The event is designed as a performance boating poker run rather than a race, allowing participants to enjoy the lake’s scenery, marinas, and boating community while competing for prizes and bragging rights.
The 2026 event prize lineup already includes several major giveaways and sponsor packages, including a surge brake conversion kit and plug-and-play kit provided by Hydrastar USA, prize packages from Speed On The Water, prize packages from the FPC, and cash payouts for first through third place poker hands.
Registration for the 2026 Thunder Run is currently listed at $325 plus processing fees. The entry package includes participation for the boat, captain, and navigator along with event T-shirts, lunch, dinner, and one official poker hand entry.
Organizers note that while every effort will be made to accommodate boats within marina slips, exact dockage conditions cannot be guaranteed due to demand and marina capacity limitations. Participants without dedicated slips will still receive parking accommodations through dock tie-ups, walkways, or rafting arrangements.
As one of the largest recreational lakes in the country, Lake Cumberland provides the perfect backdrop for the Thunder Run’s combination of poker run competition, marina socializing, and organized boating. The lake’s massive shoreline, numerous marinas, and long-standing performance boating culture continue to make it one of the most respected destinations in the powerboating world.
With organized runs, Friday raft-ups, cash prizes, entertainment, and a growing field of high-performance boats expected to attend, the 2026 Lake Cumberland Thunder Run is once again shaping up to become one of the standout summer poker run weekends in Kentucky.
